ETRC Meeting - 8/19/06, 12:00 - 3:00pm at Mel and Brent's House
1. ETRC President situation - the issue of the ETRC President position being held by Matt Carberry was brought up. The issue was whether Matt should retain his position as club president after he announced that he was opening a retail business to sell his clownfish. The question was posed to the group whether anyone had any objections to Matt holding the position. No one raised any question or concern over this topic. A vote was called on whether Matt should be retained as club president. A large number of attendees raised their hand in favor of keeping Matt. No one raised their hand in opposition. Therefore, Matt Carberry is the club president for 2006-2007.
2. Don's suggestions - a discussion started about some suggestions that Don brought up in an RC thread.
| Club meeting raffle - it was agreed that the club raffle needs to return. The idea would be that an item is put up for raffle, a meeting attendee could contribute money towards the item and then a drawing would be made for the item. It still needs to be decided on items to raffle. |
| Club library - everyone agreed we need a club library. A list will be created on the website of books available. This library will only be available for club members. When someone wants to borrow a book, they would PM the respective owner and they would work out the details of exchanging the book. This same idea could also be used for equipment. i.e. light meters, special testing equipment, etc. |
3. Door Prizes - there was interest in bringing back the door prizes to the club meetings. It was decided to start an RC thread to discuss this item.
4. Web site - the web site has been returned back to normal after the recent hack. Someone needs to audit the site to make sure data is up to date. i.e. updated email addresses, members, etc. Also, if anyone has a member photo to update, send them to our web master - Scott (Runner)
5. Emergency Call List - a piece of paper was passed around for names to be added to the call list. This list will be typed and distributed at the next meeting. This list can be used by club members when they encounter tank problems or they could use it for a list when going out of town, etc..
6. Club Salt - the club has 8 buckets of salt available (Seachem). $34.55/160 gal bucket. Contact Mel or Art to purchase the salt.
7. Dues - if needed, please pay your dues to Mel. $24/yr. June starts the new year for dues.
8. Group Order - there is an RC thread for an order from Reed-Mariculture. Reed gives the club a 20% discount and they also return 10% back to the club.
Note: Other sponsors that provide discounts:
- Reed-Mariculture
- Aquatic Island (not setup yet)
- Foster and Smith - 10% for orders over $500
- Brineshrimp Direct - 15% off
- Coral Reef - 10% off
|
9. Advertisement - a brief discussion about whether we should have vendors advertise on our web site. Need to research by-laws, pros/cons, etc..
10. Public Relations - this position is currently open. Duties include distributing business cards at LFS and dive shops, creating/distributing fliers, maintaining an email list, marketing the club to interested businesses/organizations. No one volunteered to hold this position.
11. Club Frag - there was interest in buying a coral colony (large piece of some variety of coral) and frag among interested members. Also, the idea of buying a box of corals (variety pack) could be organized for the club. It would need to be determined how to pay for the items and the type of corals to buy.
12. Next Meeting - at Don's (imsqueak). Topic - TBAbyist with the knowledge required to be successful in the long term maintenance of these marine systems.
