ETRC Meeting - Mel and Brent's house
1st topic- LogoWe decided on a logo,
which will be the banner that is at the top of our web page. It just says
East Tennessee Reef Club. This will be what we put on flyers for future
meetings. We also decided to look into getting the club meetings announced
in a few more public places: Metro Pulse, Fish Magazines, or the weekend
section of the newspaper.
2nd topic- Gatlinburg Aquarium trip
It was mentioned that when we go to the aquarium
that they have restaurants there. So we decided to eat at the aquarium,
because they offered us a meeting room to do so. A biologist will do a
presentation when we go there, as well as someone may show us behind the
scenes and talk to us about the reef tank. It was determined that some
people would prefer to drive themselves, so carpooling may be a better
option than a single large van (or two). At the next meeting we need to have
determined what time they open and when we should meet there.
3rd topic- Calcium and Alkalinity
Mike Teague said he would email all of us a large
article about calcium and alkalinity. He went through the basics of this
article, saying that it provides an explanation of how to keep your tank in
balance and what to do if it gets out of balance. It is very easy to
understand, Mike says.
Activities
Joe Wall gave us a demonstration on how to put
together a calcium reactor (very easy, only took 10 minutes maximum). He
talked about how to maintain a reactor and what type of media to use. A CO2
tank is needed and places to get refills were discussed. Essentially it was
decided that you can get the gas from Holston, BOC, A-Welders (medical grade
CO2), but you can also get it from a soda company.
The meeting concluded with a frag swap and
presentation of a free door prize to one winner (one new 20-long aquarium).
